1980- National Aboriginal Education Committee Policy
According to the New South Wales government, Aboriginal education, board of studies NSW (2010), the National Aboriginal Education Consultative committee which arose from the Aboriginal Consultative Group, created the first Indigenous education policy.
“National Aboriginal Education Committee Policy on Indigenous education emphasised cultural heritage, Indigenous studies for all Australian people, promotion of cross-cultural understanding, skills acquisition, and Aboriginal peoples' involvement in managing their own education” (The University of Notre Dame, 2014).
Woodroffe (2014), state the aims of the National Aboriginal Education policy included Indigenous liability for the implementation of Indigenous education, the need to support for and pride in culture and the achievement of academic and technological skills and promotion of cross-cultural understandings.
